Wolverine 3has already begun filming in New Orleans, but details have been kept under wraps, including the film’s title. We know thatHugh Jackmanwill reprise his title role one last time alongside director-screenwriterJames Mangoldand some new cast members, but what of the villain(s) of this sequel? According to a new report, that question has now been answered.
Nerdist Newsreports that Old Man Logan will be facing off against theReavers, a group of cyborg mercenaries who hate mutantkind. In the comics, the X-Men defeated them in the Australian outback, but the Reavers were later re-assembled under the leadership ofDonald Pierce, a member of the infamous Hellfire Club and a cyborg himself. As it turns out, they especially don’t like Wolverine, who severed many of the Reavers’ human limbs in a battle, and Pierce, another hater of the X-Men, took revenge by crucifying the adamantium-clawed mutant.

Elsewhere, we know thatBoyd Holbrook(Netflix’sNarcos) is playing the main villain, described by Variety as “the chief of security for a global corporation pursuing” Wolverine. We also know thatRichard E. Grantis also playinga mad scientist-esque villain, and Nerdist suggests he could be playing Pierce, while Holbrook’s “global corporation” could be the Hellfire Club. Though unconfirmed, both would make sense.

Stephen Merchant,Eriq Lasalle, andPatrick Stewartas Professor Xavier are set to appear inWolverine 3. Franchise producerSimon Kinbergtold usthe film is “a very radical, bold, different Wolverine than you’ve ever seen in any of these movies.” He continued:
It takes place in the future, and as you and others have reported, it is an R-rated movie. It’s violent, it’s kind of like a western in its tone. It’s just a very cool, different film.

Wolverine 3, which Jackman teased is an adaptation of theOld Man Loganstoryline from the comics, is scheduled for release on August 21, 2025.
