During its seven-season run,The Rookiehas enjoyed plenty of star-studded guest appearances. The ABC procedural, which hasalready been renewed for an eighth season, previously welcomed the likes ofFrankie Muniz(Malcolm in the Middle) andJoel McHale(Community) to the fold, but there’s one familiar face in particular that fans are hoping will make a comeback. In Season 2, viewers were introduced to John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) half-sibling, Pete Nolan. Played by comedianPete Davidson, the younger Nolan was quite a handful for John after he appeared on the scene following their father’s passing. The pair remained close, with the character even swinging by again for another guest spot in the fourth season, but since then, Pete hasn’t come back around — despite telling John that he’d continue to surprise him with visits.

While chatting with Collider’sTherese Lacson,The Rookie’s showrunner,Alexi Hawley, confirmed that Davidson’s return has long been on the mind of the writers, revealing,“Our goal is always to find a story to land Pete back in our universe.”As with most things in the industry, timing is everything, and lining up schedules can prove to be the biggest hurdle of all when it comes to theSaturday Night Livealum’s return to the procedural.

“I think Pete really does enjoy doing the show. His reps reach out to us all the time to check, but scheduling has just been a bit of an obstacle, so that man is super busy. So yes, I, we would love nothing more than to land him back in our universe.”
