The Harrigans are bloodied, broken, and behind bars — but ifPierce Brosnanis to be believed, they’re not even close to finished.FollowingMobLand’sexplosive Season 1 finale, which saw betrayals, shocking deaths, and a prison cheer fit for a kingpin, Brosnan is already teasing what’s next forthe Irish crime family. And though the show hasn’t been officially renewed just yet, he’s already made his intentions clear. Brosnan has been speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in the wake of the finale, and revealed there’s more to come.
“Yes, we have spoken about that and I would very much like to see more seasons. There’s a lot of life (laughs) and death within this family and these storylines.”
The finale’s last scene — a prison gallery of inmates erupting into applause as Conrad Harrigan emerges from his cell — wasn’t just a stylistic flourish. According to Brosnan, it was deliberately designed as a “cinematic homage” to the 1968 classicThe Italian Job,in whichNoël Cowardreceives a similar sendoff from his fellow inmates. That moment was filmed at Reading Gaol, the now-closed English prison whereOscar Wildeonce served time. Quite the heritage, it has to be said.
“It was quite memorable to be filming there on a dank, cold Thursday afternoon,”Brosnansaid. “We rehearsed the scene; Conrad comes out of the cell; he’s not sure if he’s going to be attacked or thrown off the balcony, and they applaud him. He lives again.”
And for anyone doubting thatMobLandwill continue, Brosnan’s optimism feels well placed — especially with the scale of the story left to tell.The first season ended with Harry (Tom Hardy) stabbed by his own wife, Kevin (Paddy Considine) discovering a brutal family secret, and Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell) eliminated from the game entirely. If anything,MobLandis just getting warmed up.
Why Did Pierce Brosnan Make ‘MobLand’?
According to Brosnan, the show came together quickly and instinctively: “Guy Ritchiecalled me last July here in Hawaii, where I live, and he sent me the five episodes byRonan Bennett. I said, ‘Yes,’ and I just jumped in. There was no one else on the ticket.”
What followed was five months of what Brosnan called “really intense filmmaking.” Neither he nor his castmates knew where things were heading until they received each new script. “So every time I got an episode, it was a revelation to me who was still in the picture, who was still standing.”
