We don’t cover the music video worldtoooften here on Collider, but we’ll make an exception to single outJustin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Not only is the song a tremendously infectious earworm, but the video itself has some serious pedigree behind the scenes.Mark Romanek, who helmed the immensely emotional 2010 dramaNever Let Me Goas well as theRobin WilliamsfilmOne Hour Photo, directs this colorful, joyous music video, marking a triumphant return to the format where he first cut his teeth. Romanek was behind the camera on such iconic music videos asJohnny Cash’s “Hurt”,Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer”,Fiona Apple’s “Criminal”, and theMichael Jackson/Janet Jacksoncollaboration “Scream” before making his feature debut withOne Hour Photo.

Romanek didn’t disappear from the music video scene entirely—he helmedTaylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”—but his collaboration here with Timberlake is fantastic, resulting in a vibrant video that’s perfectly in step with the song itself. Moreover, the video was shot by cinematographerJody Lee Lipes, who’s one of the most exciting directors of photography today with credits ranging fromMartha Marcy May MarlenetoGirlstoTrainwreck. Lipes shot the upcomingKenneth LonergandramaManchester by the Sea, and his work on that film is downright impeccable.

Timberlake wrote “Can’t Stop the Feeling” for the upcoming DreamWorks Animation filmTrolls, and this marks Timberlake’s first time producing a major motion picture soundtrack. If the rest of the album is as catchy and soulful as this song, we’re in for a treat. As for Romanek, he’s been attached to a number of high-profile films over the years, fromThe WolfmantoCinderella, but hasn’t yet made a follow-up toNever Let Me Go. He recently directed an episode of the HBO seriesVinyland is set to helm theShiningprequelOverlook Hotel, so here’s hoping he makes a return to features sooner rather than later.
