Universal and Legendary have released a newWarcrafttrailer online.Duncan Jones’ unique approach toWarcraftinvolves telling the story from both sides equally, the orcs and the humans, with heroes and villains on each side. The two come into conflict when the orcs, searching for a new home world, land on the human-settled Azeroth, kicking off a massive war between the two races.
What has me excited forWarcraftis how unabashedly nerdy it looks. This is a film that isn’t hiding at all from its fantasy elements, and instead is fully embracing moments like a guy jumping out of a tower onto the back of a giant eagle because that’s how things work in this world. There’s big, bombastic armor, huge weapons, and everything that you’d want out of an adaptation of a fantasy video game. Rather than “toning it down”,Warcraftis playing at the level of its source material, and I think it might end up surprising a lot of people who are trying to cynically write its obituary.

Check out the newWarcrafttrailer below. The film starsDominic Cooper,Travis Fimmel,Ben Foster,Bne Schnetzer,Ruth Negga,Toby Kebbel,Rob Kazinsky,Daniel Wu,Clancy Brown, andPaula Patton.Warcraftopens in theaters on June 10th.
