I started writing for Collider in June of 2010.My first postwas a casting article aboutMatt LucasjoiningBridesmaids. I sent it to Steve as a writing sample after meeting him at a party forScott Pilgrim vs. the Worldthe night before. I wanted it to be informative but also witty and in a unique voice. Like something that Matt Goldberg or Brendan Bettinger might write. Reading back through it now, I’m not sure all of my punches landed but it was a start and passable enough that Steve published it. I was thankful for the opportunity then and I still am today.
Today is my last day writing for Collider. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of the team the past 5 1/2 years and I couldn’t be more grateful for your readership and more proud of the ways in which the site has grown in that amount of time. It’s a testament to the hard work and level of commitment of everyone involved that this thing is reaching a wider audience than ever without losing sight of what made it great to begin with. Before I started writing for the site, I was a frequent reader. I loved it because it felt like a place run by people who were passionate about film/television for people who loved those same things. As I transition back into being a Collider reader, I’m happy to report that’s exactly what it is still today.
Dry your eyes, folks, and let’s get to theTop 5one last time:
‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Review
I’d be lying if I said I planned it this way, but it seems fitting that my last week at the site comes on the heels of far and away the biggest movie release during my tenure. After enough anticipation and build-up to sink a ship,Star Wars: The Force Awakensfinally hit theaters this week. Not sure my opinion matters considering I’ve only seen 3 of the 7 movies, but I enjoyed this one quite a bit. Maybe I’ll spend the next few Saturdays catching up on theStar Warsfilms I’ve missed.

First Trailer for ‘Star Trek Beyond’
If you’ve already watchedThe Force Awakensthen you’ve likely already seen thisfirst trailerfor Justin Lin’sStar Trek Beyondin theaters. It’s hard for me to call any use of “Sabotage” by Beastie Boys a misstep, but this comes close. Still yet, I won’t write off any film based on a 1:30 preview. I’ll just preserve my cautious optimism and hope it’s not proven misplaced when July 2016 rolls around.
‘Sisters’ Review
Put Tina Fey and Amy Poehler together in anything and you’re going to have a hard time convincing me to not watch it.Sistersis no exception and it currently rests on my schedule as my annual New Year’s Eve movie. In the meantime, though, I feel for the pic. Getting buried under the biggest release of the last 15 years can’t be fun. Give the film a morale boost by checking outour review,20 things to knowabout it, and an interview withdirector Jason Moore.
First ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Trailer
I have to admit: thefirst trailerfor Fox’sIndependence Day: Resurgencedoes a lot for me. Even without Will Smith and with the clearly inferior Hemsworth brother filling in, this looks like something I need in my life. I can’t tell you the last time I watched the original, but all of a sudden I feel like I need to revisit it along with as many Jeff Goldblum movies as possible.
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’
Similar to theStar Trek Beyondtrailer, if you’ve already watchedThe Force Awakensthen you’ve likely already seen thefirst trailerfor J.K. Rowling’sFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themin the process. There’s a troubling lack of Beastie Boys' “Sabotage” in this preview, but I think it manages to sell the film pretty well in spite of that oversight.
