This is in time for the hotly anticipatedNow You See Me: Now You Don’t, which will see a theatrical return to the franchise after almost a decade away. Scheduled for a November 14 release in the US, a week before the release ofWicked: For Good, directed byNow You See Me 2’sJon M. Chu,being several months away isn’t stopping millions from reminding themselves of what has come before in preparation for more sleight of hand.

Officially, as of August 05, 2025,Now You See Me 2has joined the ranks ofNetflix’s Top 10 most-streamed moviesin the US, joining the first film, which currently holds the #1 spot. The sequel, which Ruffalo himselfadmitted in an interviewthat he was “nervous that it would be difficult to top the first one,” seemed to prove his worries right, with a considerably worse reception from fans and critics and a slightly reduced global box office haul. OnRotten Tomatoes, the firstNow You See Meboasts a mediocre 51% score from critics, with audiences awarding a much-improved 70%. In contrast, the sequel could only muster a feeble34% from critics, with audiences dropping their score to 53%.

How Did Both ‘Now You See Me’ Movies Perform at the Box Office?

At the box office, bothNow You See Memovies finished much closer, with theoriginal out-earning the sequel by just $14 million. Finishing its theatrical run on$328 million, split between $65 million domestically and $263.2 million from overseas markets,Now You See Me 2was a decent success, earning 3.6 times its estimated production budget of $90 million. Additionally, the film earned $16.8 million from home media sales, topping up its total to just shy of $350 million.

Comparatively,Now You See Meearned $342 million from a domestic haul of $117.7 million and a further $225 million internationally. The original trumps the sequel in home media sales too, doubling its younger sibling’s total and earning $35 million from DVD and Blu-ray sales.Now You See Meearned 4.6 times its reported $75 million production budget, finishing just outside thetop 20 highest-grossing movies of 2013, failing to beat the likes ofThe Smurfs 2andThe Great Gatsby.
