With it now being July, “Summer-Ween” has officially begun.Horrorfans are getting their plans ready for the spookiest time of the year. Halloween has become the centerpiece of fall, withSpirit Halloween taking up every empty building in America, picking out costumes, and horror marathons running on channels like Freeform and AMC becoming the norm. When it comes to the latter, one of the classic films that will be playing over and over in October isJohn Carpenter’sHalloween. The 1978 film is often considered the best slasher of all-time. Now,the film is getting a chilling new 4K edition this fall.

Thanks toScream Factory,Halloweenwill have a fresh 4K/Blu-ray combo pack slipcover version, which will be a Walmart exclusive and run $26.96 USD. “The Night He Came Home”

While itwasn’t the first holiday slasher of its kind,Halloweenrevolutionized the sub-genre with its spine-tingling atmosphere,Carpenter’s eerie musical score, and its real-world backyard feel. The terror of Michael Myers wasn’t happening on a road trip or in an ill-fated sorority house. Its small-town setting ensured that any moviegoer could relate to “The Night He Came Home.” That, and theHalloween aesthetic, made it hard to outrun Myers’ evil.

Halloween’s success led to it becoming the highest-grossing independent film of all-time, a title it held for quite a while.Twelve more sequels, remakes, and reboots would follow, but none of the films could recapture the simple yet dreadful magic of Carpenter’s original nightmare. DespiteHalloween Endsin 2022 distinctly killing Myers for good, you can’t kill the boogeyman for long. The franchise will soon be returning for more films and a potential TV series.
