Of the many things to get excited about in regard toThe Legend of Tarzan, from the cast top-lined byAlexander Skarsgard,Margot Robbie, andSamuel L. Jacksonto the script byCraig Brewerthat focuses on Tarzan’s return to the jungle after tasting civilization, the top element for me isDavid Yates. Fans of theHarry Potterfilms will no doubt know his name from his work on all the Potter films afterAlfonso Cuaron’s excellentHarry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and the sense of visual texture, the mordant tone of the films that he oversaw was some of the most remarkable work done on a modern big-budget franchise over the last three decades.
Looking at the footage from the latest TV spot forThe Legend of Tarzan, which you can take a look at below, one can unmistakably see a similar sense of balancing the light and finding a unique color palette that’s moody without going completely grim. I can’t even say that I’m a particularly big fan of the subject material here, but the simple allure of the imagery has quickly madeThe Legend of Tarzanone of my most anticipated movies of the summer. We’ll see how it all shakes out when the film hits theaters on July 1st.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
