Sony Pictures has unveiledThe Girl in the Spider’s Webcast, but not in an official still or teaser for the movie. Instead, the main cast and directorFede Alvarezparticipated in a photo call in Stockholm where production is underway, so we get some red carpet-style photos that at least show us whatClaire Foy’s hairstyle is for her interpretation of Lisbeth Salander.
While fans clamored forDavid Fincherto continue his take on theSteig Larssonadaptations afterThe Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, that film underperformed and Fincher butted heads with Sony during production and marketing, so a sequel never materialized. Now the studio is essentially rebooting by adapting the fourth book in the series, withThe Crownbreakout Foy taking over the lead role fromRooney Mara.

Alvarez, who directed theEvil Deadremake and the horror hitDon’t Breathe, is at the helm and co-wrote the screenplay with his creative partnerJay Basu, whileSteven Knight(Peaky Blinders) also has a screenplay credit for writing the initial drafts.

Lisbeth Salander, the cult figure and title character of the acclaimed Millennium book series created by Stieg Larsson, will return to the screen in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller written by David Lagercrantz. Golden Globe winner Claire Foy, the star of “The Crown,” will play the outcast vigilante defender under the direction of Fede Alvarez, the director of 2016’s breakout thriller Don’t Breathe; the screenplay adaptation is by Steven Knight and Fede Alvarez & Jay Basu.
