The team behindCastlevaniaSeason 3 absolutely knocked it out of the park with this batch of episodes. They deliver the action, the intrigue, and the food for thought that elevates the source material into what’s easily one of the best video game adaptations ever made. I, for one, hope thatCastlevaniaremains immortal for many more seasons to come.

Ugly Delicious
Superstar chefDavid Changreturns for another season of his Netflix hitUgly Delicious, the series that sends Chang and his guests (Season 2 includes special guestsPadme LashkiandDanny McBrideamong others) on a journey around the globe to investigate a regional dish or traditional style of cooking and the culture that surrounds it.
It’s by far one of the most insightful investigations into the intersection between cooking and culture on TV, full of fascinating history and personal anecdotes, and Season 2 gets personal with a premiere episode that looks into children’s food while Change awaits the birth of his first child. The series is a benchmark in educational-meets-entertaining food TV, and Season 2 only improves on that strong foundation.

In his 4-star review for Collider, Adam Chitwood said:
If Season 1 was about challenging long-held ideas about food, Season 2 is about exploring entirely unknown arenas, and what we stand to gain when we can admit, “I don’t know.” The show is all the better when Chang and its litany of wildly talented and smart guests admit when they don’t know the answer, which always provides a more satisfying avenue for understanding and knowledge. Not just about food. Not just about culture. But about humanity.

“At eight episodes, there’s very little fat to trim in this season, though some of the subplots might not have been essential to the plot (seriously, that was anawfullot of vomit). However, there’s plenty here to please the show’s loyal fanbase, which leads to me mentioning this: If you loveOn My Block,be sure to binge the whole season as soon as possible.”

Available:March 13
Inspired byParu Itagaki’s manga of the same name, the anime series adaptationBEASTARSfirst debuted late last year in Japan and finally made its way to international audiences on Netflix this month. The series takes place in a world populated by all kinds of anthropomorphized walking, talking, and sometimes rather dapper-dressed animals and follows a kindly young wolf discovering his predatory instincts just as his school is hit with a murder.
In his 4-star review for Collider, Dave Trumbore calledBEASTARS"one of the year’s best" and said:

The “Fight or Flight” response has long served animals of every species for millions of years.Beastarsflips that evolutionary advantage on its head and asks what happens when predators resist their darkest impulses while prey move in for the kill. That’s a fascinating conceit on its own, but factor in high school drama, a coming-of-age story, an exploration of various power dynamics in relationships, and a furry-forward approach to well-developed characters, and you’ve got one of the most original anime series of the year.

Kingdom Season 2
The first season of the South Korean period zombie seriesKingdomwas one of the lowkey horror gems released on Netflix, first debuting in early 2019 and tying up the first batch of episodes with one hell of a cliffhanger. Fortunately, the wait is over andKingdomreturns to Netflix this month with six new episodes further following the royalty and commoners of 1500s Korea in the battle against a growing army of undead.
Set during the Japanese Invasion of Korea and weaving in character arcs from conniving queens to cowardly (and honorable) soldiers, and the terrified citizens caught up in the chaos,Kingdomhas earned plenty of comparisons toGame of Thronessince it debuted. And that’s not wrong! ButKingdomis a bit less pulpy and salacious, and a bit more honed in on quiet character drama… and then unleashing a full-on assault of zombie action. We’ve seena lotof zombie movies and TV shows over the last few decades, butKingdomis unique for its period approach, which often completely restages the action from the norm and it’s all shot with the budget and gorgeous cinematics of an awards-contending period drama.

Black Lightning Season 3
Available:March 17
It’s only March and it’s been a big year for The CW’s ever-growing DC universe.Stephen Amellhung up his hat andArrowfired his last shot, culminating in the biggest crossover event yetCrisis on Infinite Earths. But quietly chugging along amidst the chaos isBlack Lightning, the most critically celebrated of the bunch but also definitely the most lowkey. But that more grounded approach also makes it home to some of the best character drama in the so-called “Arrowverse” (are we gonna workshop that now), not to mention the best hand-to-hand fight scenes. Season 3justwrapped on broadcast on March 9, but heck yeah, the whole new season is already on Netflix this month.
Altered Carbon: Resleeved
Available:March 19
Season 2 of Netflix’s sci-fi anthologyAltered Carbonjust arrived on Netflix last month, but if you’re impatient for more, the streaming service has you covered in the world of animation. The anime-styled cyberpunk dystopia spinoff series follows Takeshi Kovacs back in a new “sleeve” (aka, the bodies where you can drop your “stack,” aka uploaded consciousness) on the planet Latimer and gets tangled up in protecting a young tattoo artist with a critical connection to the Yakuza.
In his 3-star, spoiler-filled review for Collider, Dave Trumbore said theResleevedstruggles with exposition dumps but celebrated the series animated action and said:
“Out of the gate, a couple of things are clear:Altered Carbon: Resleeveddesperately wants to play in the worlds ofBlade Runner,Ghost in the Shell, and theYakuzavideo game series. It eventually opts in to being a part ofAltered Carbon‘s world as well, thanks to a few well-placed lore drops and connections.”

The series features an ace cast includingLaura Linney,Jason Bateman,Julia Garner,Janet McTeer, andJoseph Sikarain the story of a city family who heads to the Ozarks and gets mixed up in the world of money-laundering. After Season 2 saw Bateman’s financial advisor-turned-criminal bring his family into the dangerous business, Season 3 sees him at odds with his wife when it comes to how they get that business done.
In his 3-star review for Collider, Adam Chitwood said:
OzarkSeason 3 manages to maintain the level of tension this show is known for while adding a layer of emotional stakes in the form of Marty and Wendy’s fractured relationship. Those who weren’t crazy about the series to begin with are unlikely to be magically won over—OzarkSeason 3 is still very muchOzark—but fans of the series are sure to once again get wrapped up in the cavalcade of complications (and twists) that ensue, especially as the season reaches its explosive final episodes.
