Spanish-language programming will soon have its biggest home on streaming. TelevisiaUnivision Inc. has announced a new streaming service called ViX, the first global, large-scale streaming service specifically for Spanish language programming.
ViX will be available in the United States, Mexico, and most of Latin America, and will offer both a free, ad-supported tier as well as a paid tier. The service will launch with 40,000 hours of content, featuring telenovelas likeMarimar,Rebelde,Teresa, andAmores Verdaderos, and movies from studios like Lionsgate, MGM, and Disney, which will be available in Spanish. The service will also include more than a hundred channels of content and live programming, including both news and sports.

The premium version will also include ViX+ Originals programming, as well as exclusive soccer, and is expected to debut more than fifty original series and film during its first year. ViX+’s upcoming original programming includesMi Vecino El Cartel, a true-crime documentary series;Nautilus, the true story of a policewoman on a mission to investigate a group of criminals while on a four-week journey aboard a submarine; andLa Hora Marcada,a reboot of the horror anthology series from the 1980s. ViX+’s upcoming original movies also includeQuiero Tu Vida, part of a new partnership withSalma Hayek’s Ventanarosa Productions, as well asJenni, a biopic about Mexican American starJenni Rivera.

TelevisaUnivision’s already existing streaming services like PrendeTV, Blim TV, and the legacy VIX AVOD service will be incorporated into ViX. “We are uniquely prepared to launch a global Spanish-language streaming service of this scale,” saidPierluigi Gazzolo(President and Chief Transformation Officer of TelevisaUnivision). “With the merger of Televisa and Univision, our combined history gives us an incredible experience in reaching Spanish speaking audiences, and we will use these learnings to deliver a top-quality streaming service to hundreds of millions of Spanish-speakers around the world who want to see their diverse culture, language, interests, and experiences represented and reflected onscreen authentically.”
The free ad-supported tier of ViX will launchg on March 31. ViX+ is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2022.
