The contest for the Iron Throne will be going up another notch whenHouse of the DragonSeason 3 finally premieres.Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), and her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) will each continue to press their claim in a contest which has already cost each side dearly.House of the Dragonis based on the Targaryen historical accounts inGeorge R.R. Martin’sFire & Bloodand work is already underway for the third season. ShowrunnerRyan Condalleads the charge to develop the coming season, and while we are certain thatthe Battle of the Gulletlooms in Season 3. Condal teases that the naval clash won’t be the only major event audiences will get to see.
Speaking toJosh Horowitzon Happy Sad Confused, Condal teased that Season 3 will adapt four major events from Martin’s novel, Fire & Blood, as it works towards being even bigger than the second season. Besides the Battle of Rook’s Rest, whereRhaenys Targaryen, and her dragon, Meleys, were felled, much of Season 2 was criticized for lacking much of the action that audiences sort. Condal seems poised to change that in the coming season, saying:

“That’s really exciting from a scope and scale perspective, and it’s something I think the show does really well… the things we’re building, it’s mind-boggling.”
House of the Dragonhas had its own fair share of epic moments in the two seasons its been on air. Besides the aforementioned Battle of Rook’s Rest, the show’s first season also featured the death ofPrince Lucerys, who is (accidentally) killed by Aegon’s brother, Aemond, and his dragon Vhagar. Rhaenyra’s rage was expected to be fierce in Season 2, but the show saw the rightful queen of the Seven Kingdoms taking an impressively calm approach. The upcoming Battle of the Gullet will likely be where the Greens and the Blacks finally get to vent much of the pent-up anger both have towards one another.

What Other Major Events Could Occur in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3?
Leading the Blacks in the iconic Battle of the Gullet will be Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) and his son,Alyn of Hull(Abubakar Salim). So, which other major moments might happen in Season 3 ofHouse of the Dragon? Using Martin’s book as a guide,Season 3 will likely see the Fall of King’s Landingwith Rhaenyra taking the capital, which has already seen Aegon II Targaryen fleeing the city in disguise. Anotherpotential event could be Butcher’s Ballas Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) and his Green army square off against some of Rhaenyra’s supporters. This is Westeros and for a battle to be called a “Butcher’s Ball,” one can only imagine the sheer carnage. Finally, the First Battle of Tumbleton is another major event that could happen, but so is the Battle Above the Gods Eye.
A release date for the third season ofHouse of the Dragonhasn’t been announced byHBO. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
