As it turns out, he won’t be the onlyStar Warsfilmmaker in attendance. As announced today,Star Wars: Episode VIIIdirectorRian Johnsonand the directing duo behind the Han Solo anthology film,Phil LordandChris Miller, will be featured in a separate panel.
Pablo Hidalgofrom Lucasfilm’s story group will host a discussion with Lucasfilm’s presidentKathleen Kennedyand senior vice president of developmentKiri Hart, as well as the trio of the Future Filmmaker Discussion, the panel will take place on Sunday, July 17 at Celebration Stage.StarWars.comfurther teases “some surprises” to “end the weekend on a high note.”
Johnson has been busy filmingEpisode VIIIwith a cast that includesDaisy Ridley,John Boyega,Oscar Isaac,Mark Hamill,Carrie Fisher,Adam Driver,Lupita Nyong’o,Gwendoline Christie, andAndy Serkis. By now he has enough material to show something off if Lucasfilm decides to do so.
Elsewhere, Lord and Miller, who teamed onThe LEGO Movieand22 Jump Street, haven’t started filming their anthology film, butHail, Caesar!actorAlden Ehrenreichhas scored the coveted role of young Han Solo. All they’d have to do is roll him out on stage and he’d be golden.
It’ll be interesting to see what Lucasfilm shows those at Star Wars Celebration Europe this year. Last year,J.J. Abramsand the cast ofStar Wars:The Force Awakensdid have a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but they held their bigger releases forStar WarsCelebration at Anaheim, as well as the D23 Expo. The latter won’t feature at the Anaheim convention space in California, so they may decide to come out with a larger presence at Comic-Con. It would also give fans a better idea of what to expect from these gatherings moving ahead.
