Back in 2011, when it was announced that Sony would be bringingThe Amazing Spider-Manto the big screens,CommunitystarDonald Gloverembraced a grassroots social media campaign started by his fans calledDonald4Spidermanwith an eye toward landing the coveted title role. Clearly that didn’t work out, but in an interesting twist, Glover’s spider-passion may have laid thewebgroundwork for a role in the new film,Spider-Man: Homecoming.
THRreports that Glover is in talks for theJon Watts-directed film, though his role remains a mysterious one. It’s safe to say that he won’t be stepping into Spidey’s Underoos (at least not the suit crafted by Tony Stark, anyway) since that role has been firmly locked down byTom Holland. Perhaps Holland’s debut appearance as Spider-Man inCaptain America: Civil Warmade its way into the wider fictional world and influenced some copycats or super-fans, with Glover being among them.

As for the cast and characters ofSpider-Man: Homecomingwedoknow,Michael Keatonisin talks to play the film’s villain,Marisa Tomeiwould reprise herCaprole as Aunt May, along withRobert Downey Jr.sidling up next to her as Stark. As for the friends of Holland’s Peter Parker,Tony Revolori(The Grand Budapest Hotel) will play Manuel andZendayawill be playing thefemale leadnamed Michelle;Laura Harrier(One Life to Live) has also been cast in an unspecified role. Look for the movie to head into production later this month.
