For instance,The Exorcism, starringRussell Crowe, earned a disastrous D grade according to CinemaScore.

Sinners' A grade echoes critical sentiment. The movie is now “certified fresh” on the aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, on the strength of a 98% critics' approval rating. This makes itthe best-rated film of Coogler’s acclaimed career, which also includes the indie hitFruitvale Station, theRockyrebootCreed, and two big-budget Marvel movies –Black PantherandBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever.Sinnersreunites the filmmaker withMichael B. Jordan, who broke out with a leading role inFruitvale Station, and was catapulted to stardom thanks toCreed. Collider’sEmma Kielypraised his performancein her review, writing, “If theCreedandBlack Panthermovies didn’t solidify Jordan as a bona fide action star,Sinnerssurely will.”

The movie has also been “verified hot” on Rotten Tomatoes now, thanks to its 97% audience rating. Remarkably,Coogler’s first three features all earned RT scores in the 90s. His lowest-rated directorial venture isWakanda Forever, which was also “certified fresh” at 84%. As per CinemaScore,Wakanda ForeverandCreedboth earned A grades, while the firstBlack Pantherearned a perfect A+. It ended up grossing over $1.3 billion worldwide, and became the first Marvel movie to score a Best Picture nod at the Oscars.

‘Sinners’ Is Exceeding Expectations in Its Box Office Debut

Sinners' A grade puts it above the A- earned byA Quiet Place: Part IIandFive Nights at Freddy’s, both of which grossed around $300 million worldwide. It also beat outThe Black Phone,A Quiet Place: Day One,Speak No Evil,The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It,Scream, andScream VI’s B+ grades. Needless to say, apositive audience reception typically translates into greater box office returns.Sinnersis alreadyexceeding opening weekend projections, and is aiming for a $50 million haul across its first three days of release.
