The creators of AppleTV+’s grief comedy series,Shrinking,are going all out to make Season 3 entertaining, memorable, and perhaps even nostalgic. Earlier this month, word broke that the series had succeeded in bringing the iconicMichael J. Foxout of a five-year retirement for Season 3. While his role remains under wraps, there’s speculation he may be connected toHarrison Ford’s character, Paul Rhoads. The guest cast list for the upcoming Season 3 also includesJeff Daniels,who will play Jimmy’s (Jason Segel) father,Sherry Cola, andIsabella Gomez. However, it gets even starrier as co-creatorBill Lawrencerecently shared that yetanother veteran actor from Fox’s era has been cast in Season 3, which could potentially markthe show’s final outing.
Lawrence recently sat with PEOPLE for an interview at theShrinkingFYC Event at Apple TV+ Emmy House. While sharing his excitement about reuniting with Fox after many years, the co-creator let it slip that another yet-to-be-named icon from Fox’s heyday was also making an appearance in Season 3. Lawrence and Fox previously worked together on the beloved ’90s sitcomSpin City,which Fox left in 1998 as his battle with Parkinson’s disease worsened. Their unexpected reunion inShrinkingmade for a surreal experience for Lawrence, who shared:
“The most amazing thing on this show, as somebody that grew up a product of TV and movies, was on… we had a day this last week that Harrison and Mike, and another iconic actor/actress from the same era were all on set working. And I found myself going, ‘These are three of the main people that made me want to be in TV and movies, and they’re all here. And they’re all still just so funny and so sharp and everything that I wish they would be as people, much less as performers.' I didn’t know what to make of it. It felt like my 15-year-old self, my head would have exploded.”
The Unnamed Icon Is in a Relationship With Liz
Also featured in the interview wasChrista Miller, Lawrence’s wife and actress behind Liz, Jimmy’swell-meaning but often overbearing neighboronShrinking.Elaborating on Lawrence’s comments, Miller divulged that the mystery icon inSeason 3is romantically linked to her character. “Liz is having a relationship with some icon, an unnamed icon, that we shot last week that was the most fun and will be fabulous. I can’t wait for everyone to see that,” she said.
It’s an interesting piece of detail as it regards Liz’s character, who by the Season 2 finale was still married to Derek(Ted McGinley). Their marriage hit a rough patch following Liz’s cheating with her ex, Mac. While the couple made attempts to repair their marriage, the arrival of a new love interest for Liz in Season 3 teases that their marriage might not be out of the woods yet.
