There were some questions aboutRay Donovan’s third season after series creatorAnn Bidermanexited the production, but the show didn’t miss a beat. If anything,Ray DonovanSeason 3 was the show’s most nuanced yet in terms of character drama. As it proved, the show can still be slyly funny and incorporate humous moments without the need for the fixer plot to rule things. Because as we know, the show’s power and true resonance always lies within the struggles of the Donovan clan themselves.

In the first trailer for Season 4, we get a few hints about what’s coming next for the family, including Ray (Liev Schreiber) and Abby (Paula Malcomson) reconciling,Jon Voigt’s Micky on the move (though surely he’ll be back), andEddie Marsan’s beleaguered Terry looking a little more put together than he did in Season 3. There’s no sign yet of Bunchy (Dash Mihok) or Daryll (Pooch Hall), though. And what about Lena (Katherine Moening) and Avi (Steven Bauer)? This show just has too much for us to explore, and it looks like things are moving to the docks (The WireSeason 2, anyone?). That will all likely tie into some kind of new foe for Ray, as he continues to struggle with his faith (and himself). Check out the trailer below:
