Cinemax is continuing to expand its original content in ways that might make big brother HBO a little jealous. While HBO struggles to find its next great drama, Cinemax has quietly been home to series likeSteven Soderbergh’s incredibleThe Knick, emotionally complex series likeBanshee, andRobert Kirkman’s eerie horror adaptationOutcast. With bothBansheeandThe Knickhaving wrapped earlier this year, Cinemax has addedQuarryto the mix, which feels veryBanshee-esque in tone, and seems poised to be the network’s next great series.

Quarry, based on the Max Allan Collins novels, comes fromRectify’sGraham GordyandMichael D. Fuller, and is being directed byBanshee’sGreg Yaitanes. (That’s already a heckuva pedigree right there –Rectifyis one of the best series ever to grace our screens, and longtime readers will know of my affection forBanshee). It starsLogan Marshall-Green(who you might know fromPrometheus, though I prefer to recall fromThe O.C.) as Mac Conway, “a Marine who returns home to Memphis from Vietnam in 1972 and finds himself shunned by those he loves and demonized by the public. As he struggles to cope with his experiences at war, Conway is drawn into a network of killing and corruption that spans the length of the Mississippi River.”

The series also starsJodi Balfour(Final Destination 5),Peter Mullan(Top of the Lake),Nikki Amuka-Bird(Luther),Damon Harriman(Justified),Jamie Hector(The Wire),Edoardo Ballerini(Romeo Must Die) andSkipp Sudduth(Ronin). Four of those actors come from my favorite shows of all time, so I am expecting great things (or hoping for them, anyway).

Cinemax has just set the premiere date for the 8-episode series as Friday, September 9th at 10 p.m. ET. Check out the teaser trailer below, along new images from the highly-anticipated series.
