This comes from 22 reviews, so it’s subject to change, but creatorJames Gunnand starJohn Cenaquite literally couldn’t have asked for a better start out of the gate. This is considerably higher than the 83% held bySupermanat the time of writing, though it comes from nearly 500 reviews, so the sample sizes make the scores tough to compare.PeacemakerSeason 2’s perfect rating may not hold forever, but James Gunn has proven once again thatthe MCU has a real rival with theDCU.
Peacemaker’s meteoric rise to being one of the most popular DC superheroes in the last few years is a testament to James Gunn’s storytelling prowess. Peacemaker first debuted in the 2022 reboot film,TheSuicide Squad, which used many of the same beloved DC Comics characters fromDavid Ayer’s 2016 version to tell a much different story. Starring alongsideIdris Elba’s Bloodsport, who coulddebut in the DCU sooner than expected, Cena’s Peacemaker became an instant fan-favorite, so much so that he earned his own spin-off series. The show debuted with scores of 93% from critics and 87% from audiences, a tough bar to clear, butPeacemakerSeason 2 has done it. Cena’s Christopher Smith even had abrief cameo inSupermanlast month, which helped establish him as one of the central figures in the DCU going forward.
Is ‘Superman’ Already on Digital Platforms?
After debuting in theaters on July 11,Supermanis already available torent or purchase on digital platforms. This leaves its exclusive theatrical window at just over a month, which many would point to as a sign of box office failure. However, this isn’t the case. At the time of writing,Supermanhas grossed$585 million at the global box office, which is easily more than double its $225 million budget. The film may not get as close to $1 billion as many fans were hoping it would, but it’s easily earned enough to safely be considered a success for DC Studios.
