Sony Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for the original sci-fi dramaPassengers.Scripted byJon Spaihts(Prometheus) and directed byMorten Tyldum(The Imitation Game), the film starsJennifer LawrenceandChris Prattand takes place on a luxury spaceship bound for a human colony that’s 120 years away. Given the length of the journey, the 5,000 passengers are put into hypersleep, but when two of the passengers are mysteriously awakened 90 years too early, they strike up a relationship and quickly become the ship’s only hope of recovering from a serious malfunction.

I’ll tell you up front: this trailer showsa lot. Pretty much the entire movie, it seems, which is weird because a sci-fi love story starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt kinda sells itself. Alas, for some reason Sony went full-throttle with this thing and it leaves very little by way of discovery when the film finally hits theaters.

Regardless, Spaihts script forPassengershas been making the rounds for years and is apparently pretty terrific, so this is certainly one of the most anticipated films of the year. The set design is gorgeous, as is the cinematography byRodrigo Prieto(Brokeback Mountain,The Wolf of Wall Street), and given the popularity of the two leads, I imagine this is gonna be a huge hit for Sony this holiday season.
