Let me get this out of the way before we go any further:Jordan Peele’sdirectorial debutGet Outis fantastic and should be seen in theaters this weekend. Not only has Peele crafted a film that balances equal parts terror and social commentary, he’s done it in a way that the characters aren’t making stupid movie decisions and each scene flows organically to the next. It’s a great modern take on race in America....

Ghost in the Shellis not coming to the live-action arena in the most appealing way, but there’s nevertheless plenty to look forward to in the justifiably criticized retelling. Though there are, indeed, dozens of Asian actresses who could have played the role of The Major, I’m at least vaguely fascinated to see whatScarlett Johanssondoes with the role, though she always tends to do her best work when she more, not less, animated....

Guillermo del Toromay not be directingPacific Rim 2anymore, but he’s already got an intriguing new project lined up. PerTHR, Oscar-winnerOctavia Spenceris in negotiations to star in an untitled supernatural Cold War film that del Toro is writing, producing, and directing for Fox Searchlight. Details are being kept under wraps, but the movie is described as “a mysterious and magical journey set against the backdrop of Cold War-era America circa 1963 with an otherworldly love story at the center of it....

Harlan Coben’s next adaptation with anAvatarstar just got a major filming update. It was announced earlier this month thatSam Worthingtonwould lead Harlan Coben’s next project, but details about the rest of the cast are being kept under wraps. Worthington is best known for playing Jake Sully inJames Cameron’sAvatarfranchise, a role which he will reprise later this year inAvatar: Fire and Ash. Worthington is also known for starring as Marcus Wright inTerminator Salvationand for playing Perseus inClash of the Titans....

Indian starAlia Bhattwill make her Hollywood debut with Netflix’sHeart of Stone, a spy thriller that entered production earlier this week. The film is headlined byGal GadotandJamie Dornan.
