James Gunnhas released new character posters forSuperman. After launching posters that featured the heroes of the movie yesterday, the director took some time to give audiences a new look at the antagonists of the story. Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) will do whatever it takes to expose Superman (David Corenswet) as the fraud he believes him to be. The classic DC villain is one of the faces featured in the new posters for one of the most anticipated movies of the year.Hoult recently talked about his inspirations for his performance as Lex Luthor, which includedMichael Rosenbaum’s performance from theSmallvilletelevision series.

While Lex Luthor will be the toughest villain Superman will have to face when he flies to the big screen this summer, other antagonists will turn the DC blockbuster into an unforgettable ridefor audiences.Anthony Carriganwas cast as Metamorpho. As the name of the villain suggests, the character is able to change the shape of his body. Carrigan was cast in the upcoming James Gunn movie after stealing the spotlight inBarryas NoHo Hank. The acclaimed HBO series created byBill HaderandAlec Bergopened up many doors in the industry for the talented actor.

Another character that is featured on the new posters forSupermanis The Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría). Not much is known about the villain, other than the fact that she’s connected to The Authority in the comic books that inspired this new franchise. When James Gunn andPeter Safranpresented the first ideas they had for the DC Universe,The Authoritywas one of the theatrical releases that was mentioned. Could the Engineer’s appearance inSupermandrop hints towards the status of the team in this universe? Only time will tell.

The ‘Creature Commandos’ Connection

The first project officially set in this universe was last year’sCreature Commandosanimated series, and one of the characters from that show will be featured inSuperman.Frank Grillowill return as Rick Flag Sr., after James Gunn stated thatDC Studios will strive to get actors to consistently reprise their rolesacrossmovies, television shows, and video games. Even before the first theatrical installment of the series is released, the DC Universe is already establishing deep connections between its stories. The only thing left to do is for audiences to meet the new Man of Steel in cinemas.
