The movie reportedly had a difficult post-production, with director Bongclashing with Warner Bros. over the final cut, according to Puck.

He had a similar experience with his first English-language film, the dystopian action movieSnowpiercer, which underperformed at the box office as well. That movie was distributed by the convicted felonHarvey Weinstein, who was said to have clashed with Bong over the final cut. The filmmaker followedSnowpiercerup with the acclaimed Netflix filmOkja, but he delivered the biggest hit of his career in 2019 when he released the black comedyParasite. The movie grossed over $250 million worldwide and won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival before sweeping the Academy Awards. It became the first Korean film to win the Best Picture honor, in addition to a handful of other awards.
