Hollywood veteranMark Wahlbergoften faces difficulties when it comes to the critical or box office success of his movies. However, if there’s one thing theFlight Riskstar can often rely on, it’s the triumph of his movies on streaming, with the regular top 10 of many a platform hosting at least one of his array of projects. The latest to prove popular isInstant Family, a comedy-drama starring Wahlberg andRose Byrneas Pete and Ellie Wagner, a couple with no experience who dive head-first into the world of foster parenting by adopting fifteen-year-old Lizzy (Isabela Merced) and her two younger siblings, Lita (Julianna Gamiz), and Juan (Gustavo Escobar).

Currently,Instant Familyis fifth inNetflix’s top 10 most-streamed movies in the US, joining the likes of 2024 smash hitThe Wild Robot,Vince Vaughn’s latest film,Nonnas, and the streamer’s latest Spanish film,A Widow’s Game, in the list. Although Wahlberg often struggles to attract the positive attention of critics,Instant Familysomewhat bucked that trend, becoming a relatively universally popular movie upon its November 2018 debut. Currently, the film holds a “certified fresh” 82% rating from critics on review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, as well as achieving an impressive 83% from audiences to match. “When Pete and Ellie decide to start a family, they stumble into the world of foster care adoption. They hope to take in one small child, but when they meet three siblings, including a rebellious 15-year-old girl, they find themselves speeding from zero to three kids overnight. ‘Instant Family’ Was a Fair Box Office Success

With many of Wahlberg’s movies flopping at the box office, it’s refreshing to see the talented actor turn in a success. On a reported budget of $48 million,Instant Familyearned just shy of $120 million at the global box office, making 2.5 times the investment. This total revenue was split between $67.3 million domestically and a further $52.3 million from overseas markets, with an additional $10.1 million coming from home media sales. At the 2018 box office,Instant Familywas the 60th highest-grossing movie, outearning the likes ofGame Night, A Simple Favor, andSpike Lee’s Oscar-winning drama,BlacKkKlansman.
