Louis C.K.’s delivery and general perspective on life, as witnessed in his excellent stand-up specials and, of course, the unparalleledLouie, owes quite a lot to the skeptical, wry tone ofAlbert Brooks, another stand-up who ended up as a movie star. So, it’s not particularly surprising that the two hit it off while doing voice work for the upcoming animated film,The Secret Life of Pets, a collaboration that seems to have now produced an animated TV pilot. As THR reports, Brooks and C.K. are now attached to an unnamed, secretive animated pilot set to premiere on FX, with C.K.’s Pig Newton Productions backing the series.
The show would seemingly come at a perfect time for the C.K.-FX partnership. The comedian produces and co-wrote the pilot for the upcoming FX comedy series,Baskets, which starsZach GalifianakisandLouie Anderson, and FX just recently axed plans to move forward onAdam Reed’sCassius & Clay. (Reed, of course, is responsible for FX’s hilarious animated hit,Archer.) As for Brooks, he hasn’t appeared on TV since his stint on Weeds in 2008, but has plenty of experience doing voice work, whether forThe Simpsonsor for Pixar onFinding Nemoand the upcomingFinding Dory. He’s also had a handful of excellent supporting roles over the last decade, includingDrive,A Most Violent Year, and last year’sConcussion.
C.K. has yet to confirm if he will return for a sixth season ofLouie, and FX has released no word on when or if to expect the series to come back following it’s abbreviated, astonishing fifth season. In the meantime, he recently directedBetter Things, a TV series created, written, and starring hisLouieco-starPamela Adlon, and is doing work onTig Notaro’s promising Amazon seriesOne Mississippi; he also was one of the best parts of the overall mediocreTrumboin 2015. We’ll be getting a taste of Brooks and C.K.’s working relationship inThe Secret Life of Pets, but given that FX has a history of more adult-themed material, the unnamed series has the potential to be as wildly groundbreaking asLouie.
