‘Lilo & Stitch’ Isn’t Just a Financial Success, But Not All Can Agree
With DreamWorks’How to Train Your Dragonremake also receiving rave reviews after hitting theaters this past weekend, live-action remakes of beloved animated adventures seem to be having quite the moment. Beyond its financial dominance,Lilo & Stitchhas also captured the hearts and minds of critics and viewers alike, earning a strong 72% critics' score on review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, with an even stronger 93% from audiences, higher than the 2002 version’s comparative score. However, not everyone can agree onLilo & Stitch’s quality, with Collider’sAidan Kelleygiving the film a poor4/10 in his review. Citing struggling side characters, too many references to the original film, and “perplexing pacing and audio decisions” as factors. In conclusion, Kelley wrote:
“As with most, if not all, of the other live-action Disney remakes (barChristopher Robin, which is a great live-action take on the 100 Acre Wood),Lilo & Stitchfeels like it was made by a boardroom of folks who wanted to sell more Stitch merchandise.Chris Sanders and Maia Kealoha have enough charm to keep families entertained, but it’s also hard to deny that these two characters are just as, if not more, endearing in a film you can watch right now on Disney+.”

Lilo & Stitchis available in theaters now. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the latest movies.
