Despite a drop in the number of nationwide theaters it is shown in,Lilo & Stitchis still earning impressive numbers after almost eight weeks on the theatrical circuit, showcased by its most recent weekend domestic revenue of $2.7 million.
Thanks to a further $400,000 on the most recent Monday, July 14,Lilo & Stitchhas now surpassed the$995 million mark globally, split between a $415 million domestic haul and a further $580 million from overseas markets. This makes the remake not only one of the30 highest-grossing movies in Disney’s box office history worldwide, having surpassed the $988 million haul ofThe Lion King, but also the 42nd highest-grossing movie in US box office history, with just $2 million separatingLilo & Stitchand the official top 40.

Climbing higher in these box office rankings must inevitably drop other titles lower, withLilo & Stitchnow overtaking the belovedToy Story 3, which earned a domestic total of just $9,000 less at the time of writing. Considered by many to be perfectfrom start to finish,Toy Story 3is the holder of a hugely impressive 98% critics' score on review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, with a 90% audience rating added on for good measure. With many of the gang from the first two installments returning for an adventure like no other, the film ended in tear-jerking fashion as Andy drives away to college,leaving the toys behind, in one of Pixar’s finest scenes.Toy Story 3earned over $1 billion at the global box office thanks to better representation in overseas markets thanLilo & Stitch.
