Sony Pictures has released the first images fromClea DuVall’s upcoming romantic comedyHappiest Season. The film starsKristen Stewartas Abby, who’s planning to propose to her girlfriend Harper (Mackenzie Davis) at her family’s annual Christmas dinner, but is shocked to discover that Harper has kept their relationship a secret from her family.
They pretty much had me at Kristen Stewart/Mackenzie Davis holiday rom-com, but I also really enjoyed DuVall’s previous directorial effort,The Intervention, so I’m eager to see what happens here, especially when you’ve got two great actresses in the lead roles. Also, it’s been a minute since we had a really good holiday-themed romantic comedy. The fact that people are always digging outLove Actuallyfor some holiday themed joy shows that the genre could use some fresh life, and hopefullyHappiest Seasonprovides it. We could certainly use some holiday cheer this year more than ever.

Here’s the official synopsis forHappiest Season:
Meeting your girlfriend’s family for the first time can be tough. Planning to propose at her family’s annual Christmas dinner - until you realize that they don’t even know she’s gay - is even harder. When Abby (Kristen Stewart) learns that Harper (Mackenzie Davis) has kept their relationship a secret from her family, she begins to question the girlfriend she thought she knew. HAPPIEST SEASON is a holiday romantic comedy that hilariously captures the range of emotions tied to wanting your family’s acceptance, being true to yourself, and trying not to ruin Christmas.
