There, the series star spoke withScreenRantand was quizzed about a sequel to Season 4, Episode 13, “The Nightman Cometh,” and the likelihood of it coming together. Howerton reveals that conversations on the subject have happened multiple times but have neverquite materialized into something substantial. However, the co-creator did go on to note that the creative team hopes to develop one someday:

“We’ve talked about it many times. It just hasn’t happened yet. I think we’ve all floated out ideas over the years as to what it would be, but nothing has quite stuck yet.I would like to do it. I think we would all like to do some sort of a follow-up to The Nightman Cometh at some point; it just hasn’t happened yet.But the desire is there.”

The Main Cast of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Could Have Changed
Despite having run for seventeen seasons across two decades,It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphiahas maintained its main castthroughout that time. However, that could have been different if things had played out a certain way during Season 12. Howerton recently revisited his rumored departure in that season, detailing how he had considered leaving the series after feeling that he — and the show — weren’t progressing artistically.
“I was worried that maybe, we had sort of peaked or something, and I just was like, you know, we’ve been doing this for a long time and I think I was also anxious. I had not figured out yet how to, stretch myself and be able to do other things that I wanted to do with my career outside of the show… I was aching to do other things and so I was starting to feel a little boxed in, frankly.”
