A new batch of images fromGodzilla: King of the Monsterssees King Ghidorah coming right at the king, with the ancient rules dictating the dreaded three-headed creature best not miss. Truly, the market surrounding this movie has done away mostly with the grounded approachGareth Edwardstook in his 2014Godzilla, and focused more on the fact that a host of colossal monsters are going to drop-kick each other through buildings. To be fair, the new images do give a little closer look atMillie Bobby BrownandVera Farmiga, as well as a behind-the-scenes look atKen Watanabedoing his thing as a Monarch scientist.
Speaking toTotal Film, who provided the images,King of the MonstersdirectorMichael Doughertytouched on how his film will up the madness of the monstrous shared universe that was started by Edwards, fleshed out byJordan Vogt-Roberts’Kong: Skull Island, and will eventually culminate in 2020’sGodzilla vs. Kong.

“What I loved about Gareth’s approach was that it was very grounded and very real…It felt like something you would see if you looked out your window. And then Jordan [Vogt-Roberts] pushed that further, and brought a lot of colour and vibrancy into his frames…I wanted to continue that evolution. You know, portraying the creatures as very realistic, but at the same time embracing the colour that they could bring – especially when you had a three-headed dragon that shoots lightning. You sort of have to embrace a more fantastical element when you bring in a giant moth, or a giant bird born out of a volcano. You attempt to keep it as grounded as you may, so that it feels real. But at the same time, you’re talking about very fantastical creatures.”
