Consider me delightfully surprised to find out that a live-actionFullmetal Alchemistmovie is on the way, let alone far enough along in filming to release this new teaser trailer. Unlike the current live-action Hollywood adaptationsGhost in the ShellandDeath Notewhich faced their share of whitewashing controversy, this manga-turned-mainstream movie is a Japanese production throughWarner Bros.that features a Japanese cast. But as you’ll see in this new trailer, the countryside setting has a strong European influence, which pulls directly from the manga series written and illustrated byHiromu Arakawaand the movies and series it inspired.
Fullmetal Alchemistcenters on Ed and Al, two brothers who attempted to use the dangerous and powerful science of alchemy to resurrect their mother. That attempt failed, and the Elric brothers paid for their mistake with their own bodies since alchemy’s central tenet, the Law of Equivalent Exchange, demanded it. This first look at the live-action treatment of their story is promising, but there is so much more yet to be shown as the film is still in production.
