Marvel’sThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsopened to a superior Rotten Tomatoes score thanJames Gunn’sSuperman, but the movie isn’t holding as well at the box office. It grossed $10 million on discount Tuesday, pushing its running domestic haul to $127 million in five days. Globally, thesuperhero movie has generated $227 million so far, againsta reported budget of over $200 million. While it’s still early days,The First Stepshas already overtaken the lifetime global haul ofThe Marvels, the biggest bomb that Marvel Studios has ever produced. And now, it haspassed the $222 million lifetime global haul of a mostly-forgotten science-fiction film from 2008.
The film in question isJumper, starringHayden Christensen,Rachel Bilson, andSamuel L. Jackson. Directed byDoug Liman, the movie followed a young man who mysteriously gains the power of teleportation. Produced ona reported budget of $85 million,Jumperwas a solid box office hit. But it wastrashed by the critics. It holds a terrible 15% score on the aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, “Featuring uninvolving characters and loose narrative,Jumperis an erratic action pic with little coherence and lackluster special effects.” The movie could’ve spawned Christensen’s first franchise after the conclusion of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but it was not to be.

‘Jumper’ Didn’t Spawn a Sequel
Christensen’s career didn’t quite take off after the Star Wars prequelslikeEwan McGregor’s did. He reprized his role as Anakin Skywalker in theObi-Wan KenobiDisney+ series, which was headlined by McGregor. Liman, on the other hand, continued his chaotic career with hits such asEdge of Tomorrow, the pandemic-era oddityLocked Down, the failed franchise-starterChaos Walking, and most recently, the Prime Video blockbusterRoad House. you may watchThe First Stepsin theaters, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
