Rob Zombieis a controversial filmmaker to say the least, but most can agree that his best-received film by far was 2005’sThe Devil’s Rejects. That horror movie was itself a sequel to Zombie’s 2003 filmHouse of 1000 Corpses, and fans have been curious to see if the filmmaker would be revisiting that material in another sequel. Rumors swirled in January that aDevil’s Rejectssequel was indeed in the works, and today Zombie took to Instagram to confirm the news himself: Not only is aDevil’s Rejectssequel happening, it’s already in production.

Indeed, the title of the follow-up is3 From Hell, and Zombie seemed to confirm on Instagram thatSheri Moon ZombieandBill Moseleywould be starring in the film, potentially reprising their roles fromDevil’s RejectsandHouse of 1000 Corpsesas Vera-Ellen “Baby” Firefly and Otis Driftwood, respectively.House of 1000 Corpsesrevolved around the Firefly family, who tortures and mutilates a group of teenagers traveling across the country.Devil’s Rejectspicked up a few months later, with the Firefly family now on the run and serving as the protagonists of the story.

If you’ve seenThe Devil’s Rejectsyou may be curious to find out how exactly Baby and Otis return for3 From Hell, but this franchise has never shied away from the supernatural so it’ll be interesting to see what kind of story Zombie has come up with. The title could be taken as a suggestion that we’ll be delving into the underworld, or perhaps it’s just a clever play on words. Regardless, this is exciting news for fans of the franchise.

After the success ofDevil’s RejectsZombie tackled an ambitious, gritty remake ofHalloweenin 2007, which itself was followed by a more standalone sequel in 2009 calledHalloween II. I know a lot of people hate these movies, and I’d agree thatHalloweenis overstuffed, but I find there’s a lot to like about the sequel as Zombie takes the nugget of a good story and really makes it his own. The filmmaker most recently released the carnival-centric film31in 2016, but a return to theDevil’s Rejectsuniverse no doubt comes as welcome news both to his fans and possibly his detractors, if they indeed found something to like aboutDevil’s Rejects.
