Given that its entire premise is to follow the adult life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie), anyone remotely familiar with the Bible knows whereThe Chosenis heading. The first five seasons were largely about the blossoming religious leader building up his following and gathering his disciples to his side. After the events that transpired in the final episode of the fifth season, which featured the notable Last Supper, audiences are preparing to launch off into the deep end with the next set of episodes which will make their way towards Jesus’ crucifixion. Series creator, co-writer, and director,Dallas Jenkins, hasn’t shied away from the heaviness that the next season will bring, but, thanks to a new behind-the-scenes sneak peek, we’re fully seeing the fallout of filming.

Thanks torecent commentsmade by series star, Roumie, we know that the team is about halfway done with the massive undertaking of bringing the Bible’s darkest story to life. In the featurette, we see those infamous moments coming together. Three crosses are set up in the place now known as Golgotha where Roumie’s character will be put to death alongside two other criminals. At first, it appears to be business as usual on set, as props are wheeled out, actors run through their scenes, and Jenkins gives specific direction as to how he wants the sequences to be shot. But then, something much more serious takes hold of the cast and crew, with many breaking down into tears. Theweight of what they’re filmingand what it means to them can clearly be seen as Jenkins walks from one cast member to the next, offering a hug and a kiss on the cheek or the head.

The Toll of ‘The Chosen’ Season 6

The heavy emotions that viewers witness in the latest sneak peek ofThe Chosenare just one of the many examples we’ve been given of what a difficult season it’s been.Back in April, Jenkins requested that the fandom give him and the other folks involved plenty of patience and understanding as they push forward with another massive season. The series’ creator also admitted that a taxing part of the process is the fact that most of Season 6’s scenes must befilmed at night, revealing,

“Most of it is at night. So, it means we’re shooting all through the night. It’s exhausting. This season is an 86-day shoot. It’s almost 20 days longer than any other season we’ve ever done. It’s the physical challenges, the logistical challenges that make it even harder.”
