With CinemaCon opening its doors to theater owners yesterday in Las Vegas, last night Paramount’sRob Mooretook the stage to open this year’s con by showing off tons of footage from their upcoming movies and talk about what they have in development. While we all knew the studio was developingMission Impossible 6withTom Cruise, the studio revealed the movie goes into production later this year with a planned 2017 release date. In addition, with the popularity of theTransformersfranchise, Paramount made sure to remind attendees they have three sequels in development along with solo films.

Besides talking about their in development slate, Moore touted the studios 2016 and 2017 plans by revealing new or the first footage fromBen-Hur,Robert Zemeckis’spy thrillerAlliedwhich starsBrad PittandMarion Cotillard,Baywatch(which starsDwayne Johnson,Zac Efron,Alexandra DaddarioandKelly Rohrbach)Edward Zwick’sJack Reacher: Never Go Back,Rings,Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,Stephen Frears’Florence Foster Jenkins, and a greeting fromVin Dieseland some of the cast ofxXx: The Return of Xander Cage.

While some of the new footage looked fun, the real highlight of the presentation was the world premiere of footage fromPrisonersandSicariodirectorDenis Villeneuveadaptation ofStory Of Your Life. While I was expecting a lot from the film, the footage blew past my expectations and I think Villeneuve has crafted a smart sci-fi thriller that audiences will love. If you’re not familiar with the project, it’s based on the short story byTed Chiangand adapted byEric Heisserer(The Thingremake/prequel), and centers on an expert linguist (Amy Adams) who learns to communicate with aliens who have crash landed around the planet.  As she begins to communicate with them, she starts to have vivid flashbacks that could reveal the true reason for their visit. Trust me, I was completely sold on the project after seeing this footage.

Shortly after the panel I saw down with Peter from/Filmand recorded our thoughts on the panel. Check it out below.
