In addition to Pitt being nominated for his performance inMoneyball, the film also received five other nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill), Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Adapted Screenplay.Moneyballmarked the third time that film picked up an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the film — the first came on12 Monkeys(1995) and the second onThe Curious Case of Benjamin Button(2008). However,Moneyballis well-regarded as Pitt’s strongest performance, and also the most egregious Oscar snub of his career. The award ultimately went toJean Dujardinfor his work inThe Artist.Steve Zaillian,Aaron Sorkin, andStan Chervinwrote the script forMoneyball, andBennett Millerdirected the film. It’s based on the bookMoneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair GamebyMichael Lewis.
