Last night, some good news aboutAlien: Covenantarrived in the form ofNoomi Rapacereprising herPrometheusrole after all. Rapace was at first pegged to lead thePrometheusfollow-up, but then directorRidley Scottchanged course and opted to focusCovenanton a new crew arriving on the planet, which is deserted save for one survivor:Michael Fassbender’s David. But now, as production is well underway in Australia, Rapace is joining the cast. How big will her role be? We have no idea, but how about a picture ofDanny McBridechatting it up with Ridley Scott on the set of anAlienmovie to tide you over?

Indeed, 20th Century Fox has unveiled anotherAlien: Covenantset photo, this time revealing McBride’s character, who appears to be a member of the Covenant crew. Scott has a penchant for strange casting. For instance,The Martian’s full cast list almost makes no sense:Kristen Wiig,Jeff Daniels,Donald Glover,Matt Damon,Jessica Chastain,Sebastian Stan,Michael Peña—that’s a weird mix of people! And this is the same guy who castChristian Bale,Ben Mendelsohn, andJoel Edgertonin a film about Biblical Egypt.

Nevertheless, I’m beyond fascinated to see how McBride fits into the overallAlien: Covenantpicture, and he’s surrounded by a promising cast that includesKatherine Waterston,Billy Crudup,Demián Bichir,Carmen Ejogo,Jussie Smollett, andAmy Seimetz. Here’s the official synopsis forAlien: Covenant:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
