One ofWes Craven’s cult classics is getting a spiritual successor this summer in the form ofA Breed Apart. Written and directed byThe Furst Brothers, the survival horror comedyputs a new spin on 2006’sThe Breed, a film produced by the legendaryNightmare on Elm StreetandScreamdirector that starredMichelle Rodriguezand followed a group of college kids on a “deserted” island wheredogs were bred to kill. The new feature modernizes the concept, instead centering on a private island retreat where a group of social media influencers are confronted with man-eating beasts and forced into a deadly fight for survival that pits them against one another. We’re excited to include the chilling survival flick as part ofCollider’s Exclusive Previewevent for summer movies and share a new image highlighting two of the stars who will be thrown to the hounds onMay 16.
The image below depicts a precarious situation involving actorsGrace Caroline CurreyandRiele Downs. Both women look cautious as they hold their hands to signal someone, or something, not to come any closer. More than likely, they’re trying to quell one of the legendary dogs with a taste for human flesh that resides on the island. Currey plays Violet, an aspiring social media personality who, at first glance, gets the chance of a lifetime when she’s invited to the private island where the world’s most famous content creators are gathered. As seen, though, she’s thrust into her very own nightmare reality TV show when the dogs finally make their presence known. To survive, she must compete against the other influencers to capture the dogs before she’s torn limb from limb, but the canines won’t come quietly.

GriffandNathanFurst’s reimagining ofThe Breedis also said to be taking a meta angle to the plot, as the vicious dogs were once merely meant to be actors in an in-universe sequel toThe Breed. Whatever the case, it might be a tough watch for the dog-lovers out there given the canine violence ahead, but it certainly has a fun cast on board. Though Currey hasn’t been seen on screen in a couple of years, she brings a solid resume as the lead ofA Breed Apart, including the twoShazam!films,Fall, andAnnabelle: Creation. Downs, meanwhile, enjoyed a long-running role inHenry Danger, a recurring spot onBel-Air, and the lead role ofHulu’sDarby and the Dead. The supporting cast around them is headlined byHayden Panettiere, whohas some history with Craven throughScream 4, alongside Currey’sFallpartnerVirginia Gardner, Page Kennedy, Zak Steiner, Joey Bragg, andTroy Gentile.
