Though many thought thatRed Dead Redemption 2would sweep the 2018 Game Awards, it wasGod of Warwhich took the top spot as Game of the Year. For its part,Red Dead 2did do very well, nabbing Best Narrative, Best Score/Music, Best Audio Design, and Best Performance forRoger Clarkas Arthur Morgan. ButGod of Wartook home other major awards, including Best Game Direction, and Best Action/Adventure Game.
The night was a good mix of new games trailers, a showcase for the outstanding orchestra, and solid time management for the many categories and winners (as well as some nice surprises). As for other fan-favorites,Celestepicked up Best Independent Game and Games for Impact, butMarvel’s Spider-Manwent home completely empty-handed. The mega-popularFortniteof course won big, taking the awards for Best Multiplayer and Best Ongoing Game, and also indirectly garnered a win forFortnitestreamerNinjaas Best Content Creator.
